Most bad breath is because of the bacterial activity in your mouth. This is also know as bacterial halitosis. This activity is encouraged when food particles remain in your mouth. The common areas are between the teeth, at the back of your tongue, and on your gums.

By brushing and flossing after every meal you can begin to eliminate these causes of bacterial halitosis, and sweeten your breath. When the little pieces of food start to rot, it will start to breed bacteria and the bacteria will begin to emit Volatile Sulfur Compounds that gives you the smell associated with bacterial halitosis. The bacteria may also cause gingivitis and other gum diseases which is also one of the causes of bad breath.

There are various specific smells associated with the substances released by the actions of the bacteria in your mouth.

- If your breath has the smell of old socks, then the compounds are mainly methly mercaptan;
- hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs
- Putrescine and Cadaverine reminds one of an old garage.

How You Can Prevent Bacterial Halitosis

There are a few simple ways to to prevent the bacteria in your mouth from causing halitosis. Take the few simple actions below to quickly deal with bacterial halitosis

* Brush your teeth after each and every meal. Baking powder toothbaste helps keep the bacteria in your mouth at bay. Make sure you brush along the gum line as well as the tooth surface. Every time you brush your teeth, always remember to lightly brush your tongue.
* Eating fruit and vegetables actually helps clean the teeth. Eat more of them.
* Flossing between the teeth, at least once a day, is a great way to fight bacteria and prevent other forms of tooth decay and gum disease.
* If you have dentures, clean them nightly. Disinfect them every night, along with brushing to remove stuck materials. Also clean retainers and removable braces on a regular basis. Do not forget to follow the instructions the dentist gave you.
* If your mouth gets dry, drink more water to stay hydrated.
* A visit with the dentist for a cleaning every 6 months is very beneficial.
* A majority of mouthwashes don’t have a long lasting effect on bacterial halitosis. Gargle with mouthwash at lease 30 seconds before spitting it out.

Take Action To Get Results

There are seven ways to eliminate bacterial halitosis. My challenge to you is to select two of those methods and follow them for the next two weeks. You will notice a marked improvement in your breath. Keeping good oral hygiene is the key to a fresh breath. It’s easy to get rid of bacterial halitosis by keeping your mouth clean. There are even more ways to have a fresh breath than what I’ve outlined here. If you have good oral hygiene, but still have bad breath, there may be some other cause. You can read more about natural bad breath remedies by selecting any of the articles in the menu.

Unless you never go to sleep, you are bound to have what’s called “morning breath.” You may have noticed it yourself, or perhaps your partner noticed it, or, you may have noticed it on a colleague at work in the morning (another reason to avoid morning meetings!)

Now, for some of us, it’s not so bad, and it doesn’t last very long. Bad morning breath is caused by the same thing that bad breath at other times is caused by – the bacteria in our mouth creating volatile sulfurous compounds (VSC). The reason morning breath is so prevalent, is that during the night, our mouth dries out, so these bacteria, and the nutrients they feed on, do not get washed out of the mouth by our saliva.

If you want to get all my tips about eliminating bad breath, just fill in your email and I’ll send you 10 tips over 2 weeks that can help you!
E-mail:

Here’s how it works. During the night saliva production can slow down or even stop. There is less tongue movement, and there is less oxygen moving through the mouth. All these conditions form an excellent environment for the bacteria that cause bad breath. A “perfect storm” if you will.

The bacteria that produce the VSC are anaerobic, meaning they do not require oxygen to live (some anaerobic bacteria actually will die if exposed to oxygen). These bacteria produce energy by the process of fermentation, where simple sugars are combined with other compounds. The products of this process include the VSC that cause your bad morning breath.

The back of the tongue is the place where the majority of these bacteria live and breed, due to the lack of moisture and oxygen. Food deposits, dead tongue skin cells and mucus from postnasal drip can all accumulate here, perfect nutrients for bacteria. Additionally, the makeup of the surface of the back of the tongue, which is a rough texture, is excellent for the bacteria that cause bad breath to grab on to and then breed. They can live and breed underneath the coating of food particles, mucus, pieces of food, dead cells, and other bacteria that accumulate on the surface of the tongue. This is what causes the yellowish or whitish coating on your tongue.

Want to see for yourself? Take a look tomorrow morning.

This layer of bacteria and nutrients often results in the rotten egg smell of bad morning breath.

Probably a lot more than you wanted to know, right?

If you’ve made it this far, you want to know “What can I do about it?” Here are three things you can do starting tonight.

1) Clean your mouth before bedtime. Brush your teeth. Take at least 2 minutes to brush your teeth (you should take at least 2 minutes every time you brush your teeth.)

2) Clean your tongue before you go to bed. If you are only going to clean your tongue once a day, and you have a noticeable bad breath, then do it at night. I recommend you clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth. You want to focus on the back of the tongue. This may take some practice, and some getting used to. It’s worth it!

3) If you wake up at night, for whatever reason, take a sip of water, swish it around in your mouth and either swallow it or spit it out. This will help flush out the stuff that’s causing your bad breath.

Alcohol is a natural drying agent, and promotes bad breath. If you have had a drink or two in the evening, it’s especially important to brush your teeth and clean your mouth prior to going to bed.

In the morning, you can brush and floss your teeth, clean your tongue with a tongue scraper, and rinse your mouth with water, non-alcoholic mouthwash, or even a solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.

If you take these steps, you can usually eliminate foul mouth odors. If you do all this, and have good oral hygiene, and still have bad breath, then you may want to consult a dentist or doctor for further evaluation.

The biological cause of bad breath is the bacteria that are in your throat and on your tongue, that create volatile sulfur compounds in your mouth through their process of respiration and digestion. This article is about foods that can make your breath worse and foods that can make your breath better.

We all know that onions and garlic create bad breath. The reason is that those smelly molecules in onions and garlic are sulfur compounds. Another famous odor that is made of sulfur compounds is the odor of a skunk. The odor of sour milk is also volatile sulfur compounds. So if you notice bad breath after eating onions or garlic, and it’s temporary, you can probably just use a breath mint or a mouthwash or brush to remove the smell. Breath strips can be very useful, especially if you want to impress your dinner partner.

Now, another thing that can cause bad breath is an increase in the anaerobic bacteria that are in your mouth and throat. Obviously if there are more anaerobic bacteria growing in your throat they are going to produce more volatile sulfur compounds.

So there are two ways to attack this problem if we’re looking at diet. One way is to look at the foods that we are eating, and another is to ask, what can we do to reduce the amount of bacteria growing in our mouth, or at least discourage bacteria growth in our mouth.

The foods that we eat

There are four types of foods to consider. These are sugars, acids, dairy foods, and drying agents.

Sugars are fuel for the bacteria that live on your tongue and in your throat. As the bacteria eat and digest the sugars they create more of the volatile sulfur compounds. And there are other bacteria that take the sugars and produce plaque which coats your teeth and your gums. This causes tooth decay and gum disease, which themselves can lead to bad breath. If you like to use breath mints be careful what you use. If they contain sugar they might be masking your breath very well, however they may be causing worse breath and gum disease.

Acidic foods such as coffee, citrus juices, and tomato juice cause the bacteria in your mouth to reproduce faster. Do you get the connection? Note that tea is okay, but coffee, both regular and decaffeinated, has acids that promote bad breath. The reason that acids are involved is that they decrease the oxygenation in your mouth. The bacteria thrive in this type of environment.

Dairy foods have very dense protein strands and if you have a hard time digesting the lactose protein in these foods you end up with a build up of amino acids, which are then converted into the volatile sulfur compounds by the anaerobic bacteria in your mouth and throat area. It’s also possible to have this problem with other protein foods such as beef, chicken and fish, however, its most predominant with people who have trouble digesting dairy products.

A drying agent is something used to dry things out. The most common food drying agent is alcohol. Along with being in beer and wine and liquors, alcohol is used in mouthwash. Another common drying agent would be smoking. Smoking quickly dries out your mouth.

Now, since I mentioned the word diet in the title of this article I might as well talk about going on a diet, and how dieting can cause bad breath. People who go on low-carb diets such as the Atkins diet may often have bad breath because of what’s called ketoacidosis. When your body is burning fat rather than carbohydrates for fuel it produces what are called ketones, which are excreted through the urine and through the lungs. These have a sickly sweet smell. The good news about this is that it means that the diet is working, you are burning fat for fuel. The way around this or to minimize it, is to drink a lot of water, which will dilute ketones.

Another way that dieting can cause bad breath is that the bad breath odor is the product of the decomposition and breakdown of fluids from the pancreas which moved into the stomach while you are fasting. Obviously when you are fasting you’re not doing it for a very long time so this may not be a real problem other than when you are fasting. Some people say that fasting is a good way to clear the system, to decrease or eliminate bad breath. By fasting you allow the body to flush out of your system any toxins or chemicals or decayed matter that have been stagnating there a long time.

Some foods to add to your diet to aid in the fight against bad breath

Along with parsley you can also chew on coriander, spearmint, eucalyptus, and cardamom. You can chew on these or make a tonic by steeping them in hot water. These herbs all aid in digestion as well, so they’re great to have after a meal.

Yogurt cultures. A study found that one serving of yogurt every day reduced the level of odor-causing hydrogen sulfide in the mouth. Yogurt also affects the amount of bacteria in your mouth, which can aid in fighting plaque buildup, and gum disease. Eating the yogurt adds vitamin D into your diet. This vitamin is an aid in fighting the bacteria that live in your mouth. It’s important to have yogurt with active cultures, preferably low or no sugar added to it.

Other foods such as apples, celery, and carrots, help fight halitosis. These foods help increase the production of saliva, which helps rinse out the mouth.

And finally berries, citrus fruit and any thing high in vitamin C again creates an environment in your mouth that is not conducive to bacteria growing. Vitamin C also helps prevent gingivitis and gum disease, which can cause bad breath. It’s better to get your vitamin C from foods versus supplements. But we all do it we have to do.

Halitosis, or chronic bad breath, can be a result of having a sinus problem. If you have a constant post nasal drip, the mucus that flows down the back of your throat collects on the back of your tongue. This is prime real estate for anaerobic bacteria which live on the back of your tongue on the rough texture there and produce plaque, which causes your bad breath.

A post nasal drip refers to having a thick phlegm in the throat. This phlegm is often infected. Normally your throat is moistened by nasal secretions and the mucus glands in your throat. If this liquid secretion is reduced then the fluids get thicker and you become aware of that fluid.

If you want to get all my tips about eliminating bad breath, just fill in your email and I’ll send you 10 tips over 2 weeks that can help you!
E-mail:

Because it’s so thick it’s just laying there not moving through your system, that’s when you naturally try to get rid of it (by coughing or spitting). Because it’s just laying there on the back of the throat and tongue the anaerobic bacteria back there just eat it up. Leading to your foul breath.

So if you can get relief from your sinus problem, your bad breath problem may go away too!

A good way to deal with post nasal drip is to use a moisturizing spray. There are some natural nasal moisturizers that don’t contain any additives. There are some moisturizing sprays that have additives or preservatives that have been reported to make sinus conditions worse and actually contribute to having your nasal congestion come back. Avoid benzalkonium, check the label.

Flush Your Nose To Relieve Sinus Problems

To flush your nose with salt water here’s what you can do. You’ll need salt, water, and an infant sized aspirator. Dissolve one half teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of warm water. (If you have high blood pressure use one third teaspoon of salt.) Draw the water into the aspirator and put the tip into your nostril. Tip your head so that your nose is straight back and the aspirator is at a right angle to your face, parallel to the floor. And then breathe in to suck the water into your nostril.

This may be uncomfortable especially at first. You will find it gets easier with practice. Aspirate your other nostril and then spit the water out. Do this a few times, until you get relief. And when you’re completely finished blow your nose, this will remove any leftover water. You may have to do this three times a day for several days in a row.

Even gargling with salt water, using the same solution as for the aspirator can help to clear your throat of excessive drainage.

Foods and Sinus Problems

Hot foods can cause chronic nasal problems. While you have your post nasal drip problem you may want to avoid chili peppers and other spicy foods.

Dairy products stimulate excess mucus. The lactose in these dairy products is a sugar, which is food for the bacteria and other substances in your throat and in your intestinal tract. Too much of this can have a bad effect on your gut and even your immune system. I disucss this in detail in my article on bad breath and your stomach.

Chicken Soup for Bad Breath

Another remedy you can try his tea which is known to stimulate the movement in the back of the throat and reduce post nasal drip. Chicken soup also works. Part of the reason this works is that it’s flushing the mucus down into your stomach where the hydrochloric acid will break it down, and destroy any bacteria that come with it..

If you are taking a large number of medications these can combine to make your nose dry. Be especially aware if you are, and use a moisturizing spray or a humidifier to control your post nasal drip.

Moisten Your Atmosphere

Using a humidifier can help especially in the winter months, this helps keep the mucus from drying out and getting noticeably thick. I recommend you use distilled water in your humidifier so you don’t have impurities in the air. And clean it at least once a week with water mixed with a little bit of white vinegar. The white vinegar will kill the mold and mildew in the humidifier.

Another potential source of bad breath are “tonsiloliths.” This is where dead cells and debris lodge in the tonsils and in the tonsillar crypts and actually can grow into an aggregate. These provide more food for the bacteria at the back of your tongue and mouth and another place for bacteria to live.

An Ancient Solution

Finally, the yogis of India have their own way of purifying the nose. They use something called a Neti pot. The Neti pot looks like a small teapot with a longer spout. It will hold several ounces of water.

Here’s how to use a Neti pot. Fill the pot with some warm water and a little bit of salt. Start with a tiny little bit of salt and keep increasing until you feel it sting when you do the process. You do this over a sink. Place your head over the sink and tilt it sideways. Put the spout in one nostril and you pour until you’ve used all the fluid in the pot. The fluid will run out the other nostril.

You then refill the pot, you tilt your head to the other side, and you do the same with the other nostril. You will probably have to practice is a little bit to get it just right. When you’re done blow your nose through both nostrils. Irrigating your nostrils using a Neti pot can keep the nose completely free of mucus so that you can breathe freely and easily, and reduce the potential nutrients for the bacteria in your mouth that cause bad breath.

Watch this video to see how easy it is to use a neti pot

Sinus problems can lead to bad breath. There are many ways to take care of sinus problems and I’ve outlined a few of them here. It’s up to you to decide which one of these techniques you want to use to relieve any sinus problems that you have. Always consult with your doctor especially if there are medications involved, or you think that you may actually have an illness.

Your Tongue May Be The Culprit!

Have you ever taken a good close look at your tongue? Have you ever been to a naturopath or acupuncturist or some other healthcare practitioner, where they took a good close look at your tongue?

Ever wonder what they were looking for?

They were looking for a coating on the back of your tongue. When you look in the mirror at the back of your tongue, what do you see? Does it look fleshy colored like the front of your tongue? Kind of pink? Or, does it look like there’s a coating, perhaps a whitish or yellowish film?

You may notice this in the morning, because when you sleep your mouth naturally dries out.

And because there’s no saliva flowing through your mouth to wash out the bacteria, and the plaque that’s caused by those bacteria, that plaque builds up on your teeth, your gums and your tongue. So the easiest way to see what your tongue looks like with plaque on is to look at your tongue first thing in the morning.

You may be wondering “What does this have to do with bad breath?”

Well, as you may know, plaque contains volatile sulfuric compounds. Most of these are produced by the anaerobic bacteria which live on your tongue, and mostly on the back of your tongue. So this is why you see yellow coating, especially at the back of your tongue.

What can you do about it? I recommend that you brush your tongue or get a tongue scraper and use it at least once a day. Better would be twice a day – in the morning when you brush your teeth and in the evening right before you go to bed. When you brush your tongue, do it gently and brush from the back to the front. Just a few strokes is all that’s needed to get that plaque off your tongue. After you finish brushing your tongue, rinse your mouth out with either a good cleansing and non-alcoholic mouthwash or just water and then spit it out.

Go ahead, try it right now! I’ll wait.

Cleaning your tongue is part of good oral hygiene. Add tongue cleaning to your oral hygiene regimen and you’ll have another tool in your arsenal in the fight against bad breath.

I’m sure you’ve found out that there are a lot of different remedies to cure bad breath. In my experience, there is one main remedy to always consider when trying to cure your bad breath. Want to know what it is?

Completely clean your teeth, gums and tongue at least twice a day!

That’s it. The best remedy to cure bad breath is to practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth every day, at least twice a day. Three times is better. Brushing your teeth removes the built up plaque, which is a nutrient for the bacteria that cause bad breath, and it removes food particles that are also nutrients for those bacteria.

Brushing along the gum line keeps your gums healthy and able to resist bacteria that love to nestle into the cracks and edges, along with food particles.

Use a soft bristle toothbrush, take at least 2 minutes to brush all your teeth, and when you brush your gums, use a gentle, circular motion that goes across the edges of the gumline.

You can get electric toothbrushes that have a built in timer that signals every thirty seconds, so that you can brush all four surfaces in the two minute timeframe!

In addition to brushing your teeth it is a really good idea to clean your tongue. A lot of odor originates on your tongue because bacteria live on the rough texture of your tongue, especially at the very back of the tongue. Most people skip cleaning their tongue, I know I used to.

The best way to do this is you can use your toothbrush or you can get a tongue scraper. You get them at any pharmacy. You want to go back as far as you can on the tongue. Now, when you do this, you want to be gentle. Just a little bit of light pressure. You want to go back as far on the tongue as you can.

The first few times you do this you may feel like coughing, or a slight gagging sensation. With practice you will be able to clean your tongue without any discomfort, and the results will be worth it.

Cleaning your tongue is really good for cleaning the bacteria off your tongue and getting rid of your bad breath.

Another important part of your oral hygiene is flossing your teeth. When you floss you are getting out all the small particles of food that are stuck in between your teeth and along your gums.

These are places that your toothbrush doesn’t get to. If you don’t get these food particles out of your mouth the bacteria that live in your mouth will gravitate to them and start to eat them and excrete the waste products and that causes bad breath.

The American Dental Association recommends that you floss, but they don’t say whether you should loss before or after brushing your teeth. I like to floss before so that when I brush my teeth and wash my mouth out all those particles will get taken away.

And the next step of good oral hygiene that you should do on a daily basis is use a mouthwash. Use an antibacterial mouthwash. These types of mouthwashes contain chemicals that remove the bacteria that cause bad breath.

A mouthwash will get into all the areas where you cannot brush or floss, and also helps clean your tongue. It’s very important that you use a mouthwash that does not contain alcohol (alcohol dries out your mouth, which encourages the bad odor producing bacteria).

Getting your teeth cleaned is not only good for your teeth, it’s good for your overall health. The American Dental Association recommends that you see your dentist every six months. When you see your dentist every six months your dentist will clean your teeth and check for tooth decay.

Tooth decay can lead to bad breath. The dentist or hygienist will also evaluate the health of your gums, and will check for indications of any oral cancer, vitamin deficiencies or even diabetes.

Getting a good cleaning every six months can help you in the fight against bad breath. Plaque and tartar can build up very quickly, if you’re not practicing good oral hygiene.

What some don’t know is that dentists are important to your overall health as well. Dentists now check your head and neck and your face. They check your lymph nodes, and they check the movement of your lower jaw joints.

You may have tried every home remedy that you can find a cure for bad breath. The easiest thing in my book, and what gives you the best results overall is to keep up with your oral hygiene and see your dentist every six months.

Did you know that your mouth is part of your digestive system? Did you know that your digestive system can be the cause of your bad breath? That’s right, not the food that we eat, but how food is digested can be the cause of bad breath.

There are also some specific foods that cause bad breath. Of course there’s garlic and onions and other foods that have powerful tastes and can give us a temporary case of bad breath. And that can usually be fixed with a breath mint or some gum or brushing your teeth.

If you want to get all my tips about eliminating bad breath, just fill in your email and I’ll send you 10 tips over 2 weeks that can help you!
E-mail:

Lactose Intolerance

One of the main food groups that can cause bad breath because of stomach problems are dairy foods, milk and cheese. It’s not their fat content, either. It’s that your stomach cannot digest these types of foods very well. Those that have this problem may be deemed lactose intolerant. If you know that you’re lactose intolerant, and you have bad breath, and you do eat dairy products, then this can be the cause of your bad breath.

The problem with lactose intolerance or stomach problems in general, is that carbohydrates, fats and proteins are digested slower than normal and so these proteins are available to the bacteria in your mouth and elsewhere for longer periods and can cause bad breath.

Low Intestinal Flora?

Bad breath can also be an indication that the bacteria in your intestines are low. If you have good oral hygiene and use mouthwash, and you still have bad breath, then that could indicate you have a problem with your intestinal bacteria. In this case it’s not the bacteria in your mouth that are the cause of bad breath. It’s rather the bacteria in your stomach and your gut. We refer to these as intestinal flora.

These bacteria often get low when you’re taking antibiotics. If you notice bad breath during or after taking antibiotics, you may want to look into restoring those bacteria in your gut with supplements or even just yogurt. Without the proper amounts of bacterial flora, your food is not fully digested, and in that case it putrefies in the colon and that produces a foul gas, which can cause bad breath.

Food can remain putrefying in your gut for years, and if that’s the case a lot of mucus is created by your body to encapsulate the toxins in the putrefying food. If you think that’s what is happening, you may want to consider some sort of a cleansing or a fasting process to completely clean out your digestive and eliminatory tracts.

Fasting and Dieting

People that went on the Atkins diet, which is a high protein diet and high-fat diet sometimes had bad breath. This is because of the process of ketosis where your body is burning fat as fuel instead of carbohydrates. During the Atkins diet, especially the induction phase you eat very little carbohydrates. The ketones, which are produced by ketosis, have an odor that is released through saliva and urine. Some have referred to this odor as “sickly sweet.” If you are doing the Atkins diet properly this is actually an indication that the diet is working. One way to solve your bad breath problem during the Atkins diet is to drink plenty of water, especially between meals. This will dilute the ketones.

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to bad breath. Your stomach, as part of your digestive system, and even some of your other organs, if they are not functioning properly, can lead to bad breath. If you’re practicing excellent oral hygiene as I’ve outlined in a few other articles and you’re still having your bad breath problems you may want to consult with your doctor about some other possible causes.

Halitosis is the medical term for bad breath, and it’s generally used when it’s a chronic bad breath condition. Sometimes bad breath is just temporary, like when you eat garlic or onions. People with halitosis have a chronic condition and are constantly battling with bad breath. Did you know that over 80 million people in America claim to suffer from bad breath?

Trying to find a cure on the Internet can be overwhelming. There’s tons of advertisers with products that are guaranteed to cure your bad breath. There’s everything from medications to sprays and even devices. The question is, do you need it? Does curing your bad breath have to be so complicated enough to get a product? I found a solution for myself with a little bit of research and educating myself and some experimentation. I think you can too.

Many people say that you can cure your bad breath by improving your oral hygiene. I highly recommend it. And for some people it’s as easy as that. However, if you brush your teeth six times a day, and you still have bad breath, you need to do something different. Have you ever heard that a dog’s mouth is cleaner than a human’s mouth? Believe it! Even though dogs don’t brush their teeth, the dog’s mouth has a different type of bacteria than we do. Did you know, you’re more likely to get an infection from a human bite than a dog bite? My point is that the bacteria in humans mouth can cause all sorts of problems including bad breath and periodontal disease, and periodontal disease can lead to more bad breath. So, good oral hygiene helps keep your teeth clean, helps your teeth last longer, and helps you keep your breath fresh.

Now, not only does good oral hygiene mean brushing at least twice a day, it also includes flossing your teeth and cleaning your gums, your tongue, and inside your cheeks. There are many little spaces and cracks inside our mouth that bacteria love to grab onto and settle into. And once the bacteria find that little crack or crevice they start to feed on leftover particles of food. Have you ever looked at your tongue and noticed that yellow coating? That is plaque and that is the byproduct of the bacteria feeding on the food particles left in your mouth. So there’s more to cleaning your mouth than just brushing your teeth. You also need to clean off your tongue inside your cheeks.

If you’re keeping good oral hygiene, and you’re still suffering from bad breath, you might want to see your dentist. One of the biggest reasons that people visit the dentist is to find out how to cure bad breath. Your dentist can help you with this. Not only checking to see if there’s some other condition perhaps periodontal disease that’s causing your bad breath, they can also give you tips on how best to clean your teeth, how to floss and how to brush or clean your tongue. And it’s always a good idea to see your dentist every six months for a good cleaning anyway.

There are other potential causes for bad breath, including sinus problems, infections or problems in your digestive tract. Your dentist can help isolate some of these conditions, but if not, you may want to see a doctor.

Make sure you get the right advice. Before you send away for a bunch of products, try some of these simple cures. If that doesn’t help check with your dentist or talk with your hygienist. They can give you great steps to take to beat your bad breath. Curing bad breath isn’t complicated, you just need to do your part to find the right solution for you.

The cause of most bad breath is the bacteria in our mouth. While we cannot get rid of all the bacteria in our mouth (and we really don’t want to, there is some good it does us), we can reduce the amount of bacteria (and the waste products, which are the direct cause of bad breath).

Good oral hygiene is the first thing I recommend to anyone who has bad breath. Are you brushing your teeth after every meal? EVERY meal? Carry a toothbrush with you, or keep one in your desk, and use it after lunch as well. If you really want to eliminate bad breath, you are going to have to take some extraordinary measures. Brushing after lunch will help.

Flossing your teeth, and using mouthwash are also excellent ways to keep your mouth clean and fresh.

Here are some other ways to have a fresh smelling mouth. Some have found that chewing on mint leaves can freshen the breath. You can find lots of toothpastes, mouthwashes and even breath mints with this flavor – how about just using the leaf itself, without all the other stuff ?

Chewing on sunflower seeds, and then drinking some water, can also help clean your breath.

Parsley – the garnish we all push to the side and forget about. Parsley used to be served at the end of the meal, because it helped to eliminate food odors. So keep that parsley for the end of the meal, and nibble it down to help clean your breath. Who knows, it be a good conversation starter with your date!

Another herb you can chew on after a meal is clove. Cloves leave a fresh, invigorating taste in the mouth, and can leave your breath smelling fresh and interesting. You could also try chewing some cardamom seeds.

The solutions mentioned above all can help eliminate odors coming from the bacteria in your mouth, or from the food that may be left in your mouth after the meal. I would like to turn your attention now to foods themselves that can help in the battle against bad breath.

Lemon juice. Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a glass and gargle with it during the day. Some lemon juice in water helps digestion (a potential cause of bad breath) and gives a refreshing taste to your water. Staying hydrated, and keeping your mouth moist, are also good ways to fight bad breath – your saliva has a natural odor fighting ability, and it helps to sweep out food particles, and bacteria, from your mouth and into the digestive tract, where they can be eliminated.

Herbal Teas, such as green tea, or tea made from Fenugreek (methi) seeds, aid digestion and help reduce bad breath. Use unsweetened teas – the sweeteners encourage bacteria.

Pineapple juice can mask the odors of bad breath. Another healthy remedy with many benefits to people with bad breath is eating an apple. An apple a day – apples remove bacteria, and their roughness helps clean the teeth and the tongue. Don’t forget that tongue!

The last home remedy I’m going to talk about in this article is baking soda. The reason baking soda is used in toothpastes is for it’s bacteria fighting abilities. You can gargle with baking soda in water, which helps clean the tongue and wash out bacteria, or you can make a paste of baking soda and water, and then put it on your toothbrush, and then brush your teeth, gums and tongue with it.

There are many home remedies that can cure bad breath, however, good oral hygiene is your first line of defense. Your dentist or hygienist will be happy to give you some tips and pointers on brushing, flossing and tongue scraping.

Try adding just one of these home remedies for curing bad breath today, try it for a week, and see what results you get. The important part is to do something different!

Would you be surprised to learn that 50% of Americans complain of having bad breath problems? At least 50% or more of people in most countries worldwide claimed to have bad breath. So many people deal with this problem and don’t talk about it. What can we do? What are some of the cures for having bad breath?

First we want to become aware of what causes bad breath. Bad breath can be caused by the bacteria in your mouth, it can be caused by food that we eat, and sometimes it can be caused by an illness or disease we are suffering from. Your bad breath may be from one or all of these. How you fight it and how you cure it will be unique to you, and it’s going to be up to you to find a solution to your bad breath.

The first thing to do is to look to your oral hygiene and how you clean your teeth and your mouth. The most overlooked cure for bad breath is how we clean our teeth and our mouth. Good oral hygiene is a natural remedy to curing bad breath. Brushing your teeth two or even three times a day, after every meal, flossing at least once a day, and more often if you can, and cleaning your tongue, all help to reduce the bacteria in your mouth and though nutrients and foods that they eat, so that you can have a fresh breath.

A good way to cure bad breath is to cut down or cut off the food supply to the bacteria that are in your mouth that cause bad breath. The bad breath from the bacteria in your mouth are waste products created by the anaerobic oral bacteria that live in your mouth. These waste products are volatile sulfur compounds. You may have noticed a sulfur smell from yours or another person’s mouth. This is the source of the sulfur smell.

Baking soda is a great cure for bad breath. You notice how there’s a lot of toothpastes out there that claim to have baking soda in them? The reason is baking soda prevents bad breath. You can use the baking soda that you get from the store, just make a paste by mixing the baking soda with water and it’s especially useful when you’re brushing your tongue. Put some of the baking soda paste on your toothbrush and gently brush your tongue from back to front. The baking soda helps to neutralize the acid in your mouth, making the environment less friendly to the bacteria that cause bad breath.

You can also make up a solution of baking soda and water, and then gargle with it.

Drink some unsweetened brewed green tea, a few times a day. The tea contains polyphenol’s, which are extremely good at slowing down the growth of these bacteria that live in your mouth. Drinking tea helps to keep your mouth moist. Having a dry mouth can lead to bad breath. Green tea is high in polyphenols as well as unalloyed copper, which acts as a natural tongue scraper.

These are some of the things that I found that work the best in curing bad breath. There are many home remedies for curing bad breath. I recommend you start with these. They are simple, inexpensive and easy to start doing right now.
